Welcome Back – 40 Years Later

Friday, 16 October 2026

Time: 17:00

Location: 25 Industrial Road, Brackenfell, Cape Town

From 5 p.m. – Informal Arrival and 9 p.m.
The venue will be open from about 5 p.m. Men and their companions who are already in Cape Town or the surrounding area are welcome to come early and start visiting immediately.
Come in, get something to drink, look for the old faces, and start picking up!
🕖 19:00 – Official Welcome
Friday night is deliberately informal.
For many of us, this will be the first time in many years that we will see each other again.
The Big Question of the Evening:
“What do you look like now, where have you been, and what has happened to you in the last 40 years?”
There will be plenty of food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available.
Clothing: neat, comfortable, and informal.
Throughout the evening, the large TV screens will display old photos and memories from our army days.
Friday night is primarily about finding each other again, telling stories, and having a good time.

“Do you remember yet?” Memory Lane | Rottte 1986–2026

Saturday, 17 October 2026

Time: 18:00

Location: 25 Industrial Road, Brackenfell, Cape Town

🕕 From 6pm
Saturday night is our main event – an informal army dinner with a pivotal barbecue, tasty food, drink, old photos, stories and 40 years of memories.
We want to bring something back from the feeling of our army days, but without a tight or formal military function.
Pork pans
We also want to see how we can make the famous pork pans – the steel dinner plates we were issued with at the time – part of the informal army dinner in a fun nostalgic way.
Fire pans
In the outdoor gypsy area around the building, we will have fire pans where we can make fires.
Later in the evening, we can stand or sit around the fire, have a drink, tell stories, and socialize.
Old pellets, a fire, a drink, and stories that have been waiting to be told again for 40 years.
Pitcher / Piper
We are also checking to see if we can get a piper for Saturday night.
The thought is that the sound of the bagpipe is part of our Memory Lane experience and takes us back another 40 years for a moment.
Clothing – Saturday Night
Informal and comfortable.
If you still have something from your army days – an old bush hat, jacket, T-shirt, or other appropriate item – please bring or wear it.
It's about fun and nostalgia, not a formal uniform parade.
Wives and companions can dress as they feel comfortable.
